The article “Google shopping to counter Amazon” written by R. Winkler & A. Barr describes a new shopping way developed and spread by Google and furthermore discusses the possibility of fierce competition between Google and Amazon in the near future. As is vividly depicted, Google Shopping is an inserted service, allowing users to browse multiple brands at once without having to switch back and forth among search results and buy it if he fancies the product. What is more, by virtue of the advantage of top-notch search engine, Google shopping is able to give users more user-friendly and comfortable shopping experience. Compared with Amazon’s “one-click ordering” service, Google Shopping is more direct. Now, Google Shopping has become a brand-new marketing technology of digital marketing. This launch has aroused a high degree of concern in the retail industry, which means that a melee between the search engine and e-commerce platform may open up. Behind this move of Google is that although Amazon has been ranked first in the retail industry for several years, many companies, including some famous enterprises want a piece of the retail pie.
 
Actually, the author does not make it clear which one of Google and Amazon would win out of the stiff competition. However, the passage does show that Google shopping has its strength which Amazon could not own and the aspiration of Google to point to the retail area and compete with Amazon, the original king of retail. This passage is helpful for me to support my argument that there are some firms that could beat Amazon in the marketplace (question 1) and gives me some insights on how formidable Google is in terms of countering Amazon. (question 2) JD.com is an example of partner of Google shopping.
